1887 Centro West is currently a compact two-level structure: only one level for living above the garage, over-decorated with ugly stucco details and set-up off of the road by driveways sloped so steep they are barely functional. Its street-side small windows and narrow deck are ironic, considering it is located on a south-facing slope above Tiburon’s Paradise Park, enjoying cross-bay views spanning from downtown San Francisco to the Golden Gate Bridge. The proposed project will carve out an entry court at street level, framed by a new garden-roofed garage. The existing garage level will be converted into two bedrooms. The top level will be reconfigured to provide generous indoor/outdoor living spaces and a master suite addition oriented to the view and south light. These upper level spaces wrap around a private rear-yard courtyard, with a kitchen garden on the side. The existing stucco treatment will be removed and replaced with a materials layered for each level - concrete, horizontal wood, and cement plaster from bottom to top.
